Abstract
An individual cannot separate himself from the norms, values, or symbols. When an individual attempts to break away from the entire symbolic order, he will become a psychotic subject with radical actions. However, an individual will never achieve freedom even though he distances himself from the symbolic order. Freedom is only a trajectory leading an individual to another symbolic order. This research aims to analyze the empty trajectory of freedom through Pasung Jiwa by Okky Madasari. The research problem formulated, (1) how is the fantasy of freedom narrated in the novel Pasung Jiwa? The theory of subjectivity by Slavoj Zizek and the qualitative descriptive method is used in the research. This research found that Sanana's character is trapped in the symbolic dimension of familial and symbolic feudalism. Afterward, Okky Madasari found a flaw in the Symbolic. Therefore, she narrates that the character, Sasana, took a radical action by choosing to be a songster. This action is a journey towards the Rill.
