Abstract
Various Indonesian folk tales were born from various regions. Some of them were found to have the same hero archetype, namely the good-hearted bandit figure. The birth of the hero bandit archetype cannot be separated from the situation at that time. This bandit is considered a hero because he steals or robs from the rich and distributes the proceeds to the poor. This research aims to find Indonesian folklore with the same archetype of the bandit hero; the background of this hero bandit archetype was born amid society. This research includes qualitative research. The data collection technique in this research is a library technique. The data analysis technique in this research uses content analysis techniques. The results of this research: several Indonesian folk tales with the same archetype of hero bandit in the colonial era, namely Sarip Tambak Oso, Maling Cluring, Si Pitung, Si Jampang, and Entong Tolo. The existence of bandit heroes in Indonesian folklore was born as a manifestation of the disappointment of ordinary people towards the Dutch and the rich society at that time. Due to the limited abilities they had amid unfavorable situations at that time, the archetype of the bandit who had a good nature and was a helper to the small people emerged as a representation of a hero for those contained in various folklore from different regions.
