Abstract

Bantan Sari village is a fraction of the main village, namely Bantan Air Village, which is famous for its Malay population descended from generations of ancestors who inhabited the village. These customs are reflected in their attitudes and procedures, full of good manners and good character. It was in this Malay land that the tradition of clearing forests for agricultural land was born. This tradition is now said to be almost extinct because the law no longer allows people to cut wood and burn land for agriculture. The four focuses of this study are (1) explaining how the mantra tradition of opening forests exists in the Malay community of Bantan Air village? (2) What is the description of the spell used? (3) How is the stylistic study of the spell to open the Forest? and (4) How is the diagnostic element of shirk contained in it? Data obtained from interviews. A stylistic approach is used in this qualitative study. The procedures involved are transcription, description, interpretation and giving an impression of the mantra. This Indonesian literary treasure is rich in rhyme, alliteration, assonance and anaphora, even though it is diagnosed as having elements of shirk in it. The step that must be taken to prevent people from falling into shirk is to continue to study the language of the mantras used by charmers, shamans and bomo.
